When people say it’s a stupid, superficial thing to avoid eating at Chik-Fil-A just because you disagree with the politics of the higher-ups, I assume those people don’t realize Chik-Fil-A profits are pumped into organizations that literally support legislation to execute gay people.
When people are actively spreading bigotry, it’s not superficial to take your business elsewhere.
this right here is why the internets exist.
Got a problem with gay marriage? How about gay rights in general? Want to know what the Bible REALLY says about homosexuality? PLEASE reblog this soeveryone can be educated.
Also, delete your Facebook account and chuck your computer. FB, Apple, AND Microsoft all support gay rights.
Thanks to a comment on a post by ussawesome, here’s a more complete list of everything you can’t do anymore:
Basically: if you’re planning on boycotting Oreos, get ready to start growing your own food.
|Them:||I don't think kids should be exposed to gay relationships.|
|Them:||It's introducing children to sexuality! They're too young for that!|
|You:||So when a prince and princess kiss in a Disney movie, are they introduced to sexuality? When the prince and the princess get married and have a child, is that introducing your child to sexuality?|
|Them:||NO! But if they see a man and a man, or a woman and a woman together... they're going to start asking questions! Like how a man and a man can... you know, do anything together.|
|You:||You think the only thing people think when they see a gay couple is "I wonder how they have sex"? Furthermore, you think a CHILD is going to even know what that means? When the prince and the princess kiss, does your 4 year old daughter ask, "mommy, how do people have intercourse"? No. She just sees two people in love. If you remember when you were a kid, you probably didn't think about sex every time you saw two people happy together.|
|Them:||But it'll bring up all kinds of questions, it'll confuse my child!|
|You:||Then be a fucking parent and explain it to your child. The only question that might be brought up is "mom, why don't you want gay people to be happy?". And when you don't have a good answer for that question, you can look your child in the eye and say "It's because I'm a bigot".|
a comic done by christianne benedict, posted on the womanthology art forum. brilliant!
YES. Jesus, thank you.
I cannot tell you how many times I have had to point out what the audience at conventions actually LOOKS like to people in the industry. They can do signings in a booth full of every kind of person all day long, every color, every size, every orientation and more, and STILL go online and talk about how only white straight males read comics.
IT IS PROFOUNDLY UNTRUE AND INSULTINGLY IGNORANT.
I had a really similar moment in a handful of comic shops in NYC this past week. There were definitely guys who I read as cis-white-hetero present, but the majority of the shoppers were women, folks of color, and folks I read as possibly LGBT/queer. I even overheard a few self-identified straight white guys talking about how proud they were that DC and Marvel were adding more lesbian and gay characters. It was really awesome.
I wanted to round everyone up and march over to DC and Marvel for a friendly chat.
Anytime I ever go to the comic book store here, there’s always more female-presenting people in the store than male-presenting people and the owner is still a dick to us. It’s like dude, we’re bringing in at least 50% of your revenue - a little respect maybe?
|Cooper:||I imagine if it was putting Jews behind electrified fences, you'd be saying something different.|
|Pritchard:||Now, here we go again. We all know that's not gonna happen--|
|Cooper:||Actually, that has happened. It's called the Holocaust.|
